The College of Liberal Arts provides pre- and post-award support to faculty who seek funding for their research or programmatic activities. We coordinate with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to secure and administer the following:

  • Grants
  • Contracts
  • Cooperative Agreements
  • Fellowships
  • Research gifts
  • Research Enhancement Program (REP) grants
  • Multidisciplinary Internal Research Grants (MIRG) 
  • Other sponsored projects


 

 

PRE-AWARD SERVICES                                                                                  

TIMELINES

FUNDING IDENTIFICATION   

 

  • Identify funding opportunities
  • Identify sponsors’ missions and programmatic priorities
  • Work with researchers to brainstorm and devise funding strategies

Minimum 6-12 months before funding is needed.

RFP REVIEW

 

  • Deconstruct guidelines (e.g., eligibility requirements, proposal details, sponsor timelines, submission instructions, etc.)
  • Create and share checklists (proposal requirements, content requirements) 

Minimum 1-3 months before sponsor deadline.

PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT

 

  • Participate in project planning
  • Compile institutional data 
  • Provide templates (sponsor specific or individually customized) 
  • Provide guidance on: Data Management Plan (DMP), broader impacts, sponsor-specific requirements, etc.
  • Draft budget and budget justification (allowable costs, cost-sharing, salaries, indirect costs, fringe rates, subawards, etc.)  
  • Provide feedback on proposal narrative
  • Develop submission plan
  • Copyedit (punctuation, sentence structure, clarity, readability, etc.)

FINAL PROPOSAL REVIEW

 

  • Review all proposal documents for compliance and completeness 
  • Proofread (typos, basic errors, etc.)
  • Share draft for University Advancement (UA) review if TRIP eligible
  • Ensure institutional requirements are met (e.g., Kuali, 3-day rule, UA clearance)
