2018 Honorees
Dr. Beverly C. Tomek
Dr. Beverly Tomek earned her Masters of Arts in History from Texas State University in 1999. She is currently the Associate Provost for the University College and Associate Professor of History at the University of Houston-Victoria in Victoria, Texas. Dr. Tomek specializes in U.S. Social History and has authored several books on the Civil Rights Movement, the American Revolution and the Civil War. She is co-editor of the Pennsylvania Historical Association's Study Series and list editor for H-Net's American Studies.
Dr. Pamela S. Meyer
Dr. Pamela Meyer earned her Masters of Arts in Teaching from Texas State University in 1978. Dr. Meyer is currently a professor in the Department of Psychology and Sociology at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi, Texas. She specializes in medical sociology, social epidemiology and research methods. Most of her research is focused on health issues among minorities and the more vulnerable in society. She is a member of the Coastal Bend Health needs taskforce, a former committee chair for the Pan American Roundtable and has served as a researcher for the City of Corpus Christi's Homeless Issues Partnership. Last Year Dr. Meyer was the winner of the Department of Sociology Graduate Alumni Award.
Andrea C. Powell
Ms. Andrea Powell earned her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Texas State University in 1999. Ms. Powell is currently the co-founder and the Executive Director of FairGirls.org, a Washington D.C. based non-profit organization dedicated to ending human trafficking. Ms. Powell is an adjunct professor at the Elliot School of International Affairs at George Washington University. She is also a founding board member of Gata, Servia, a nonprofit providing prevention education and direct services to youth survivors of human trafficking.
