Tips for an Effective Virtual Advising Session

  • Be prepared. To expedite the check-in process, please have your student ID number ready and test your microphone and speakers before clicking the Zoom link.
  • Check your connection. A number of students are experiencing connection issues when using a phone or tablet. For best results, we recommend using a desktop computer or laptop with a strong internet connection for the advising session.
  • Pack your patience. Currently, the demand for academic advising is extremely high and wait times are longer than usual. We are working hard to meet the unique needs of each student and appreciate your patience.
  • Be present. One of the benefits of virtual advising is the advisor's ability to share their screen with you. They will be reviewing course requirements and important information related to your degree, so please make sure you are in an environment and on a device that allows you to appropriately engage in the conversation.
